Perfect Gowns for your Perfect Occasion

Getting married on a beach in the middle of such a beautiful display of nature can be quite liberating. Many of our beach wedding brides choose to wear a gown that matches this feeling. Instead of a fifty pound Cathedral-style gown, you might want to consider something lighter, whimsical maybe. The breeze will be blowing in your hair, and your dress should match this loose, “flowy” fashion.

Today, we have searched for great dresses to fit the beach wedding ambiance. Vera Wang came to our rescue with some great gowns that will not buckle down any beautiful bride. They work well with ballroom heels, or sandy slippers. Take a look at these designer creations:

We love how Vera explores satin, lace, beads and tulle. These dresses are amazingly elegant, and yet they seem to wisp away in the wind. Of course, designer dresses are not exactly cheap. If you cannot afford more than a few thousand dollars on a wedding gown (which many of us cannot,) check out bridal websites like Bride Couture that are stocked with discount designer gowns, great wedding gown links, and other related websites.

Also take a look at David's Bridal. They are the leading wedding gown retailer in the United States. While some of their gowns might seem a little too generic, there are more than a few great ones, and even greater prices. Also, while we are discussing light, free gowns, their Galina designer gowns are a really great alternative to the upscale designer price.

Lastly, we have to include this fabulous local find: Hawaiian Moon is a locally owned clothing store here in Hawaii. They specialize in aloha-wear, classy island prints, and we recently discovered their line of bridal gowns. These are perfect for the simple, yet beautiful Hawaiian Style wedding. The only downside to Hawaiian Moon is that they do not showcase their entire collection online. They also do quite a lot of custom design for locals here in the islands. However, if you are interested in this elegant mix of fashion culture, send them and e-mail and they will provide pictures, or show you where to find more info. Take a look at this gorgeous Hawaiian-style dress:

A sweet little wedding favor

Our specialists here at Oahu Wedding make a point to stay updated on new wedding ideas, fashions, and products showing up in the industry all over the world. We work with the finest merchants in the Honolulu area to provide the best at your wedding ceremony and reception. Abby Jean’s blog, Style Me Pretty featured wedding cakes – more specifically chocolate wedding cakes on July 26. She mentioned some great cakes from bakeries in Los Angeles and Seattle. If you pay close attention to the inspiration board she designed, there is an adorable addition to the cake board. Jen’s Desserts in Seattle creates original cookie wedding favors to match the theme of your wedding day.

We thought this was a great idea, and had to find someone who provides the same services locally in Hawaii. We searched, and we found. A locally owned bakery here in Honolulu called The Cake Garden bakes these cute little cookie favors with a bigger selection than we would have expected! Wedding cakes, dresses, butterflies, hearts, or anything else you dream up. The cookies are all homemade and hand-decorated by the privately owned baker, herself. They are a great edible, yet delightfully classy alternative to the traditional useless wedding favor. They can even be customized with your names written in frosting on the top!

Cookie favors from the Cake Garden are also sweetly priced. They range from two to four dollars depending on size and design. For a wedding with 50 guests or so (like so many are here in Hawaii) this is ideal; a favor to keep people talking and satisfy their sweet teeth, all for a great price.

Some fun statistics on weddings in Hawaii

Getting married in Hawaii is the second most popular destination wedding in the world, only second to Las Vegas. There are over 25,000 weddings every year in the islands, a great majority of which are beach weddings. With Hawaii’s popularity increasing annually, the competition is fierce and couples have much to choose from. Oahu Wedding’s services rise to the occasion time and time again. Take a look at some interesting statistics about the wedding industry- particularly here in Hawaii.

-May and June are the most popular months to get married. September and October follow.
-One third of engaged couples hire a wedding consultant (the really smart ones hire Oahu Wedding’s specialists)
-Every year, an average of 2.4 million weddings are performed in the US (25,000 of which happen in Hawaii).
-The average number of guests at a Destination wedding in Hawaii is 47.
- The average age of a bride in the US is 25. The average age of a groom is 27.
-Traditionally, the father of the bride would pay for everything. Today, however, the bride and groom themselves pay for the wedding about 30 percent of the time; the bride's parents pay about 17 percent of the time. As for the rest of the time, costs are covered by different sources -- the bride and groom and one or both sets of parents
- The average honeymoon budget is $3,657.00 (lucky for those who get married in Hawaii and start their honeymoon early).

Do you fit into any of these categories? It doesn’t matter, really. The statistics in the wedding industry, especially in Hawaii are big and broad because of Hawaii’s unique and inviting accommodations. Whether you want a small, inexpensive ceremony, or an all-out Hawaiian luau at one of Oahu’s finest resorts, you will be satisfied. No matter where you are from or what you prefer, there is someone in Hawaii who is ready to help – ready to plan your special day. Oahu Wedding welcomes people from all walks of life, with all different preferences and desires. We are here to make it happen for everyone who is here to embrace marriage at its best, and nature at its most beautiful.

Reception Locations - Moli'i Gardens

Oahu Wedding specializes in beach weddings on the South shore of Oahu. Many of our couples come to Oahu with only a few friends and family members to take part in their wedding day. Our wedding specialists at Oahu Wedding can provide anything from a small beach reception with Hawaiian entertainment to a resort reception for hundreds of guests.

Moli’i Gardens is our newest offered option for receptions and ceremonies in a lush, tropical garden location. Located at Kualoa Ranch about 45 minutes from Waikiki, this garden sets the mood of seclusion and romance, while still providing all facilities needed to host a great party and take wonderful pictures of your beautiful wedding.

We can set up your reception site on the garden grass under tents at Moli'i
gardens, or even better - the gazebo in the picture below is large enough to fit about 100 guests comfortably, a live band or DJ, and still have room for a dance floor. This will be beautiful and also eliminates the extra cost of renting tents. Moli'i gardens is located on a Japanese coy pond, and also overlooks Kaneohe Bay and Chinaman's hat (another small island off of the coast of Oahu). The facilities at Moli'i gardens include full electrical capabilities, a small kitchen, and easy
access for equipment and guests.

The lower gazebo is a perfect place for a ceremony on the water, cocktails before dinner, or simply as a backdrop for professional photos. This gazebo was actually built as the set for the honeymoon house for Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon in the Movie, "You, Me and Dupree" which released in 2006. After the movie was shot, it was left there and the outer walls were removed, leaving an open gazebo instead of a house. This is perfect for wedding ceremonies and picture taking.

If you are looking for a beach ceremony, but would like a different setting for your reception, Moli’i Gardens is in a perfect location; Kualoa Beach Park is located just around the corner. Have a beautiful beach wedding with Chinaman’s hat and the Kualoa mountain range in the background, and then retreat to your garden paradise for the reception. Check out our more locations page to read more about Kualoa Beach Park.

The unique trait of Moli’i Gardens is its versatility. It has great facilities and a beautiful setting. The usage is flexible to your needs, and it is a country-style setting without having to drive all the way to the North Shore. Please enjoy more pictures of this beautiful event location.

Outstanding Photography at Oahu Wedding

Today, Oahu Wedding would like to showcase one of our exceptional vendors. When we say “We only work with professionals,” we aren’t telling stories. Our skilled affiliates are our proof of the validity that we boast.

Josh Johnson is an admired photographer here in the islands. He takes pride in his work, and produces exceptional works of art with every shoot. Photography is his art, expression and profession. We can talk about his greatness and talent all we want, but in the long-run, the resulting photographs and memories will be your certainty of our promises to you many months prior to your big day.

To give you a taste of the products you can expect, take a look below:

Josh is very precise with his work. From the position of the bride’s dress to the perfect lighting of the sunset, there is a work of art that results from his meticulousness. Still, each picture has the element of natural beauty and movement. Instead of looking staged and uncomfortable, your albums will be filled with candid shots filled with the emotions you will feel on the day of your wedding. The beach is his canvas, the camera his brush. You are invited to come along for the ride.

Here are a few photographic tips for your beach wedding:

- Have an idea of a few particular shots that you would like. Make a list of pictures that are important for you and who is in them. (ie. Mother and daughter, bridal party, bride and bridesmaids, etc).
- Take the advise of the photographer; as a professional, your photographer will know the ideal positions and places for the best possible pictures. The change of the slightest angle can affect the light, color and quality of the picture. Even if something seems less than what you would like while shooting, know that the photographer is doing everything for a good reason.
- Avoid heavy makeup and oils before taking these important pictures. Choose foundations that will accent your good qualities, not cover them up. In what can be an attempt to look “better” than normal, goopy makeup, or misused moisturizers can be a disaster.
- When choosing a package, consider how many pictures you would like. Oahu Wedding’s larger packages include larger photography packages. Also notice that you can choose to upgrade the photography options on smaller packages. Even if you are having a smaller wedding with few guests and a small, or no bridal party, you can take as many pictures as you like home with you. Photography is definitely a good place to splurge for your wedding day. The last thing you want is to look back and wish you had more. Check out our wedding packages page to view photography options.

A Special Touch from Oahu Wedding

Since we have been on the subject of catering, Oahu Wedding invites you to consider an alternate catered affair. When considering wedding catering, what often comes to mind is a ballroom filled with porcelain place settings, linen and plenty of well-prepared, sometimes costly cuisine for your numerous guests.

Getting married in Hawaii is unique because of its intimacy, romance and natural beauty. Many of our customers here at Oahu Wedding do not retreat to this island paradise to have a full-size party full of loved ones. Many times, the idea of bringing such a big event this far from home is unrealistic. More often than not, destination weddings like these consist of the bride, groom and a few close friends and/or family members to celebrate along with them.

Allow us to suggest a unique dining experience to go hand-in-hand with your beach wedding ceremony. Take a sort of unorthodox approach to your first dinner as husband and wife: let us cater to you, instead of worrying about catering to your guests. Oahu Wedding’s catering for two on the beach is the ultimate romantic dining experience. After your Hawaiian ceremony, relax on the soft sand of Hawaii’s beaches and enjoy a freshly-made meal served to the two of you by your very own waiter. Sit at a private table and watch the sunset and early evening moon over the Pacific while you are being served Hawaiian delicacies and island gourmet set with fine China and tiki torches.

Every experience that you have in Hawaii will define your memories of marriage. If you are looking for an intimate affair to share with just bride and groom, this is a perfect
choice. Your first meal together will be more than delicious – it will be a memory that will last forever.

To make things more convenient for you, Oahu Wedding’s catering for two on the beach is included in two of our wedding packages, and also listed on our Ala Carte Menu. Add this to a smaller package to conclude your evening of new beginnings with a delicate finale. Ask one of Oahu Wedding’s wedding planners for detailed menu choices for your evening.

A Few Notes on Catering

One of the essential elements in an unforgettable wedding is the food. The culinary options are endless for an event like this, but be careful with too much variety. It is easy to become overwhelmed with large menus and different tastes. Destination weddings like a Hawaii beach wedding can make things even more complicated: Are you interested in trying something new? Would you like to sample Hawaiian novelties and experience the culture of the Hawaiian Islands? Would you like to stick with safe, tasty entrees and be confident that your guests will be pleased?

When planning a wedding far from home, it is necessary for you to be completely confident that you are getting something that will satisfy everyone with a perfect mix of presentation, culture, and familiar flavor. Our wedding planners at Oahu Wedding have put together a short checklist to prepare you for these important decisions that await you.

1)Before you even take a look at the menus that you have to choose from, have a general idea of what you would like to include for yourselves, your bridal party, and your guests. Would you like to give them a choice of meat? Will you be needing a vegetarian alternative? Jot down a few notes before you read the menus so that you can be decisive and avoid feeling overwhelmed.

2) Address the issue of Hawaiian cultural meals. If you are interested in sampling Hawaiian novelties at your reception, make sure to keep a balance between what is new and interesting, and what you are confident that you will enjoy. For example, try an appetizer with fresh Hawaiian fish, or poke, but also choose spring rolls. Try fresh island salmon, but don’t forget to have chicken or steak as an alternative.

3) Know what you are willing to spend. If you have a clear budget from the beginning, you will be able to choose from appropriate courses. The last thing you want is to fall in love with a menu that you cannot afford. Most caterers charge per person, so having an idea of how many guests you will be inviting is also a must.

4) Last but not least, be aware of your catering plans. Our Oahu Wedding Planners will keep you posted on all aspects of your ceremony and reception. You need to feel comfortable and confident that your plans are being taken care of. This is a very important day for you. Trust quality service and nothing less.

Take a look at our receptions tab for a sample menu from our outstanding caterer, Panya Group. They provide the best mix of Hawaiian specialty and classic gourmet menus. Get your taste buds ready for your wedding day; your stomach will be just as satisfied as your hearts

Why get married in Hawaii?

As a wedding company here in the islands, we feel it is necessary to address a very important question: “Why get married in Hawaii?” There are too many answers to this question. This blog will highlight all of the greatest perks, novelties and romantic elements that can only be found in Hawaii – specifically Oahu.

Clearly, Hawaii’s popularity is due to the natural beauty found here in the islands. The islands of Hawaii were formed by a monumental volcanic explosion millions of years ago. There are 132 islands in the Hawaiian island chain, all of which are adorned with rich volcanic soil, perfect for the moisture of the pacific and home to thousands of beautiful tropical flowers and plants. The beaches of Hawaii are notorious for their glimmering sand and bright blue water – perfect for the backdrop for the most important event in a couple’s life.

Vacationers from all over the world travel to Hawaii to escape cold weather year-round. The climate here in the pacific islands is a constant 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit with cool trade winds coming in from the East. Warm tropical showers keep the mountains and plants green, while bright rays of sun make for a great tan for visitors and sun bathers.

Because of these natural elements, there are approximately 10,000 visitors to Waikiki Beach each week. The Waikiki area is only 1.5 miles long and is packed with hundreds of hotels, restaurants of every kind, and an activity store or tour service on every corner. Even with all the hustle and bustle of the hospitality industry here on Oahu, the beautiful blue water and gorgeous environment attracts tourists from every nation in the world. Check out our Other Locations tab to read about Oahu’s most beautiful beaches.

In addition to its beauty, Hawaii is not simply a place to get married and go home. There is always something to do and see while visiting the islands. Take a tour to the North Shore and visit the Polynesian Cultural Center to experience cultures from the islands of the pacific. Cruise the island on a moped with the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin. Go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, or try the surf in Waikiki with a certified surfing instructor. The possibilities here on Oahu are endless. For assistance with activities, call Oahu Wedding’s toll free number (866)644-1072 and one of our specialists will help you plan your dream vacation – before and after the wedding!

Oahu Wedding provides a full-service coordination service for your wedding day, reception plans, accommodation consulting, activities and anything else you may need while planning your beach wedding adventure. One of the nicest things about getting married in Hawaii is the lack of stress that comes with planning your own event. Our wedding specialists will coordinate everything for you. All you have to do is choose a package, tell us what you need, and show up! Your dream wedding and vacation will be waiting for you. Planning your event with Oahu Wedding allows you to start your honeymoon before the ceremony even begins.

According to CNN Money , the average cost of a wedding in the US is approximately $26,327.00. This can cause severe monetary problems for a couple that is just starting out. Getting married in Hawaii is not only beautiful and romantic, but also cost effective. Oahu Wedding’s packages start at $300, and the average beach wedding runs about $1,700. In addition to affordable prices, Hawaii is a convenient tropical paradise for those coming from the US and its territories. Hawaii’s marriage licenses are valid anywhere in the United States. A passport is not required, and you have the safety of never having to leave the country. The islands of Hawaii are as convenient and economical as they are beautiful for your perfect beach wedding.

Lastly, your wedding day is one that will last in your memories and photo albums forever. The beaches of Hawaii are an ideal setting for gorgeous and unique photographs that will be cherished by you and your loved ones. Our photographer is exceptionally professional and offers only the best in quality edited pictures, albums, videos, and memoirs custom created for you.

These were only a few of the reasons why hundreds of people are married on the beaches of Hawaii each day. Getting married in Hawaii is an unforgettable experience that will never be forgotten – come and take part in the romance of nature’s beauty.

Beach Wedding Invitations

Welcome to Oahu Wedding’s wedding information blog. This will be a database for questions, answers, recommendations, new products and all otherwise “must-know” information for brides-to-be, engaged couples, and anyone who wants or needs the latest in island wedding style.

Getting married in Hawaii is an incredibly romantic occasion – the unique mix of elegance and class along with Mother Nature’s most primitive beauty creates a scene unlike any other. Likewise, all aspects of the wedding plans - from start to finish are equally as unique as the event itself.

Appropriately, today we will begin with the beginning – the first expression of your special day is the invitation. As in any relationship, first impressions have a lasting effect on everyone. Your invitation is the first impression of your wedding day – Oahu Wedding’s wedding specialists have done some research to make that important meeting count for you and your guests.

First off, just because you are escaping to a paradise far from home does not mean that your marriage looses its elegance. Visit Abby Jean Press for a complete modern elegance that can sometimes be forgotten when referencing the term “Beach Wedding.” As mentioned before, beach weddings are the perfect mix of societal class and nature – so why skimp on your invitations? Announce your union to your loved ones – and do it proudly.

Abby Jean’s style is somewhat metropolitan. It can be used for all walks of life: for those looking to impress, for those who value quality at all costs, or simply for those who appreciate beautiful things. She also has a great blog with valuable design-oriented wedding information. We will reference it frequently here at Oahu Wedding.

Looking for something a little more cost-effective? Look around at Wedding Needs for a more themed invitation. If you are having a more casual ceremony and would like to accent your wedding with a beach-style invitation, then this is a great place to go. Casual is not necessarily negative – even in an industry where style plays such an important part. Hawaii’s beaches are a perfect place for an intimate, casual ceremony with just the two of you, or maybe a few close family and friends. Whatever the case may be, these invitations are inexpensive and full of lively expression and romance.

Any of these invitations will be a great introduction to your one-of-a-kind celebration. Whether you want to customize your invitations and use the finest imported materials, or you are looking for an elegant, simple announcement of your love for one another, you will find excellent variety with either of these websites. Enjoy!
